The DEI Leader Network's latest live event addressed how data can help make employees feel safe at work
The DEI Leader Network welcomed experts Jakub Ficnur of i-Sight Investigations, Nicole Crowley of Redbud HR, and our own Holly Wittenberg to discuss how data can help make employees feel safe at work. The panel discussion, which was moderated by Denise Rosemond, also of Diversity Works, highlighted how a focus on process rather than individuals can create a system that removes inconsistencies and bias, and therefore generates employee trust.
The panelists introduced the concept of psychological safety, which exists when people feel their workplace and team are places where they can speak up, offer ideas, and ask questions without fear of being punished or embarrassed. While it may seem counterintuitive that data can help create a very human condition, data does help employees see that everyone is treated the same way and subject to the same process.
We polled the webinar participants about how their companies could improve psychological safety in the workplace and improved communication from leadership topped the list. Our panelists noted how data is the input to a process to drive a decision which can then be communicated to reinforce a feeling of safety.
